Ancillary Solutions Designer

Strategic Response Team (SRT)

MillerKnoll's Strategic Response Team (SRT) is seeking an Ancillary Solutions Designer to join their team. Be a part of a group of talented designers focused on Ancillary - the fastest growing category in the furniture industry today.

The SRT is MillerKnoll's centralized design resource, uniquely positioned within the organization to support our dealers, our sales teams, and our internal teams. We are a team who help MillerKnoll win the big projects and the little stuff too by being the best at designing and specifying MillerKnoll products. The ideal candidate will be an innovative designer who is passionate about using ancillary furniture as their medium to create compelling design solutions.

What You'll Do:

  • Work with integrity, clarity and hustle in all you do to positively contribute to the SRT and MillerKnoll culture.
  • Contribute to an infectious team culture in which we teach and learn from everyone we work with.
  • Partner with MillerKnoll (MK) sellers and dealers in select markets to help them navigate to the right ancillary design solution and increase the frequency of MillerKnoll ancillary specifications and revenue.
  • Build a relationship as a trusted advisor to MK sellers and dealer partners to instill confidence in using our team's services.
  • Act as a subject matter expert regarding the ancillary products offered as part of the dynamic MillerKnoll portfolio of brands.
  • Lead project calls with MK sellers to provide recommendations on how our team can best support the opportunity's sales strategy.
  • Provide clear and professional communication to MK Sellers and dealer partners regarding what to expect, and when to expect it. Then follow through on expectations.
  • Apply creative problem-solving skills to create drawings and renderings that effectively communicate design solutions.
  • Develop design presentations to communicate ancillary design solutions and specific product recommendations using the appropriate platform, when needed. (ex. Microsoft PowerPoint, Scout Digital Suite etc.)
  • Create inspiring mood boards featuring ancillary product photography and finishes to evoke the feeling, style, and aesthetic of a client's space when needed.
  • Contribute new creative ideas to better solve client needs.
  • Strategize and deliver ancillary design solutions that offer the end user choice and consider wellbeing by supporting a variety of postures.
  • Verbally communicate design intent of proposed ancillary solution to articulate how it meets the client's goals/objectives.
  • Creatively position ancillary products to solve client needs, differentiate our offering, and build MillerKnoll brand preference and loyalty.
  • Provide bid-ready specifications to ensure MK sellers and dealer partners can easily share ancillary pricing with clients, when needed.
  • Self-check space plan drawings for design integrity, completeness, and compliance with local codes and ADA requirements.
  • Self-check specifications for completeness and accuracy
  • Maintain current knowledge of interior design trends and products in the furniture industry related to ancillary settings and application.
  • Utilizes applications including CET, Sketch-up, and other tools as applicable to support various product application needs.
  • Awareness of opportunities to optimize value-add and value-engineer design solutions
  • Facilitates increased connectivity and understanding between sales and design through exceptional communication skills
  • Fields calls/requests from internal and external audiences for applications guidance/support.
  • Represents and advocates for MillerKnoll products as the optimal solution with dealer partners, helping increase trust and share of wallet with dealers.
  • Leads corporate insights and strategies on creating optimal design specifications in competitive bid situations.
  • Performs competitor design/application research to drive optimal value-added solutions.
  • Counted on as a trusted senior voice on department strategy and direction
  • Mentor other designers in Strategic Response and throughout MillerKnoll, helping to elevate the overall design output and communication of MillerKnoll design.
  • Engages with internal teams to inspire optimal solutions and internal improvements.
  • Lends expertise to joint efforts with internal departments on shared initiatives.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as requested to achieve business objectives.

You might be just who we're looking for if you have...

Education + Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in in interior/architectural/facility design from an accredited program, or relevant academic discipline.
  • 5-7 years of experience in interior design, space planning, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required.
  • Commercial interior design, furniture applications, or equivalent skills and experiences (preferred).

Licenses + Certifications:

  • NCIDQ preferred.

Skills + Abilities:

  • Demonstrates proficiency in AutoCad, Revit, CET or other current 3D software/design tools.
  • Has clear understanding of architectural drawings.
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft & Adobe product lines utilized for presentations.
  • Experience with CET (preferred)
  • Exhibits a work style that is assertive, with the self-confidence and ability to represent MillerKnoll in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions for informal, collaborative and group settings/applications.
  • Must have strong project management and analytical skills, including coordinating deadlines, design responsibilities, and final deliverables.
  • Must have strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead a meeting to help determine project needs and identify action items.
  • Must have excellent writing, communication, presentation and team collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated deep knowledge of the contract furniture industry and workplace strategies.
  • Ability to be deadline-oriented and to work under pressure while tactfully dealing with stressful situations.
  • Ability to change priorities quickly and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to successfully coordinate the efforts of internal and external resources.
  • Exhibits ability to work and collaborate with others to develop enriched solutions.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external business partners.
  • Experience working in cross-functional team environments.
  • Basic understanding of the furniture sales process, and how design and sales work together.
  • A willingness and ability to travel as needed - approximately 10%
  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.

A starting compensation range for this role is $88,600.00 - $111,750.00. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business/organizational needs and market factors . You may also be eligible to receive a geographic premium, annual discretionary incentive and equity awards which are subject to the rules governing these programs.
