Job Description
Basic Function

Supervises a team of project managers that executes capital projects in a TIC range of $25K - $5MM for a total of $40-60 MM/Yr.

Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA)

  • Supervises project managers that implement projects to improve plant profitability, safety, and reliability ensuring execution of projects within the approved routine capital budget
  • Determines and manages actions necessary for the safe and reliable operation of projects and the refinery within approved budget limits, and recommends capital improvement projects for the continued growth and profitability of the facility
  • Assist with the design and build of plant additions and modifications, provides design engineering with local resources where possible, develops RFB and writes purchase orders for engineering support and manages outside engineering productivity and cost
  • Works closely with Execution and Turnaround Leads to manage overall project expectations
  • Coordinates with outside engineering/consultants
  • Supervises their direct project manager's workload to validate flow efficiency
  • Coordinates all requests for internal support
  • Provides management with regular updates regarding completion of milestones and significant accomplishments and communicates progress and problems in a timely manner
  • Organizes a project team for each project ensuring proper representation from key department, makes task assignments as necessary and act as a liaison between the company and county and state agencies as it may pertain to assigned projects

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from timeto time in their sole and complete discretion.

Experience

A minimum of 7 years project management is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

Project Management experience, refinery experience, and past supervisory experience is strongly preferred.

Education Level

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required.

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

A Master's of Engineering or equivalent experience is preferred.

Required Skills

Ability to solve day-to-day problems on projects as well as find and develop solutions for long range viability of projects at the refinery, and work and lead in a collaboratively team environment. Advanced project engineering skills and training. Ability to develop and implement a project budget and stay on time and on budget. Intermediate computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and database. Self-starter. Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication. Advanced reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform complex mathematical calculations.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Strong project management background is preferred. Primavera Project Scheduling software experience is strongly preferred.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Supervises five employees and manages outside engineering contractors and any other human resources needed to accomplish the project.

Work Conditions

Office and field based with up to 10% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment, and driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, and tanks, rotating equipment, loud noises and vibrations. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require sitting, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50lbs, climbing up to 200 ft, perceiving color differences, wearing personal protective equipment as needed and a respirator in emergency situations (beards not permitted), ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, valid State driver's license and proof of insurance required.Job conditions may require standing and walking.
